Cuba - Coming home

Thursday, September 24. We are flying home today, but on the way we made a stop at Revolution Square to see the monuments. As we approached, we saw a huge outline of Che on a building adjacent to the square, and then another of Camilo Cienfuegos, on of the major heroes of the Cuban Revolution. The square itself features a stature of an earlier Cuban revolutionary, José Martí. who was instrumental in the rebellion that eventually led to Cuba becoming free of Spanish control.  The dominating monument in the square is the tall José Martí Memorial, built in the shape of the five-pointed star that is seen on the Cuban flag and made of gray Cuban marble. All of us have noticed that despite his huge presence in the history of the revolution as well as the government of Cuba in the last half century, Fidel is surprisingly missing from these sorts of displays. Raul is pretty invisible as well .Is it because they are still living?

We arrived at José Martí International Airport in plenty of time for our charter flight home. It is always good to go back to the US, but we had such a good time in Cuba and enjoyed our entire group so much that was a little hard to say goodbye.

Goodbye Cuba

Hello Florida
